Hello, Millrose family! It's been a whirlwind of cables, connections, and community for us over the past few months, and we wanted to take a moment to share what's been happening in the Millrose world.
Data Centre Odyssey: A Marathon Project
Since August, our dedicated team has been immersed in a colossal subcontract project within the depths of a data centre. We've been diligently installing extra capacity, incorporating new servers and switches, and undertaking the monumental task of tidying existing cables. We've been part of a team labelling thousands of new cables with precision. It's been a marathon, and we're on track to emerge into the daylight just in time for Christmas.
Commercial Ventures: Cambridge and Beyond
In between our data centre endeavours, we've been flexing our expertise as subcontractors on various commercial installation projects around Cambridge. From a manufacturing plant to an international software company, we've navigated rerouting copper cable infrastructure, implementing new cabling solutions, and conducting Fluke testing to ensure optimal performance.
Diverse Projects on the Horizon
The Millrose team is a dynamic force, always on the move. This month, we're venturing into MOD sites, contributing to a sustainable energy project near Norwich, and gearing up for a subcontract with a major food manufacturer—stay tuned for more exciting updates! Plus, we're proudly providing matchday big screen and digiboard services at Ipswich Town FC and offering call-out support for Norwich FC.
Residential Connections: Bridging the Gap
We haven't forgotten our residential customers. In areas where telecoms/datacoms engineers are scarce and internet provision is lacking, Millrose steps in. We've been busy upgrading WiFi, including TP-Link and Cat6a solutions, installing Starlink, and conducting AirMagnet coverage surveys. We've extended our reach to home offices, adding data sockets, and boosting WiFi coverage around homes.
Community Engagement: Building Bridges Beyond Cables
At Millrose, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us. In 2023, we've been involved in various community activities, including:
- Supporting the Ely Cathedral careers event, guiding students on Data Engineering careers.
- Mock interviewing Year 11 students at Witchford Village College.
- Participating in the Vista Academy in Littleport Careers event, educating students about fibre optics and Data Engineering.
- Sponsoring and judging the Ely Hero Awards, celebrating local heroes.
- Contributing to the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), sharing our experiences for skilled trades courses.
- Volunteering with the "Light Brigade" to set up Christmas lights in Ely.
- Donating meals to the Ely Community Lunches program for Christmas.
- We've even built the bonfire for the Ely fireworks display!
Looking Ahead: 2024 and Beyond
As we wrap up a year filled with challenges and triumphs, Millrose is gearing up for 2024. We're planning schedules and eagerly anticipating what the New Year will bring.
